0.5 Course Policies

 Course Participation

Students are expected to abide by the course timeline and to be active participants within the learning environment. This includes following the syllabus, logging into Canvas regularly, and staying involved.

It is expected that students will engage with one another and the professor in a respectful manner. Even if you disagree with someone, you can do it respectfully. Degrading and rude language will not be tolerated.

 Course Communication

Communication between the professor and students will occur via discussion forums, feedback on assignments, the General Course Q & A discussion board, Canvas announcements, and email. Your best bet for a quick response is to email me through the BVU email system. I do not respond to messages sent through Canvas messaging, as I do not get alerted to them, so please use the email system instead. I will also respond to the General Course Q & A discussion board during normal business hours Monday-Friday. Although you may not get an immediate response, I will respond to your email or discussion board question in as timely a manner as possible, typically within 24 business hours. You can also call during normal business hours.

Any communication outside of meme discussion boards should include:

  • A salutation: Hi/Hello Person’s Name
  • A message or body that is clear, concise, polite, and has complete sentences with college-level spelling and grammar – including capitalization and punctuation. (No text message or IM slang).
  • A Sign-Off: Thanks/See you Monday/Have a nice weekend/Best Wishes, and your name

When you have questions for me, please use the following guidelines so that other students may benefit:

  • General questions about an ASSIGNMENT or the SYLLABUS should be posted in the General Course Q & A discussion board.
  • PERSONAL MATTERS (e.g., grades, questions about feedback on an individual assignment, etc.) should be discussed with your professor via email or scheduling a virtual meeting.

Virtual Office Hours, General Q & A, and Announcements

Virtual Office Hours

  • I will be available during my designated Student Support Hours (office hours), so please email me and let me know if you would like to meet during that time so I can send you a link or call you for our meeting.
  • I will not be in a virtual classroom at that time, as they are the same student support hours for my on-campus students so will potentially be meeting with them during that time also. That is why it is important for you to email me to set up a meeting during that time so I can ensure I am available to meet with you.
  • If my Student Support Hours do not work for you and you need to meet with me, please email me and we will find a time that works for both of us.

General Q & A

  • In the Help Forum and Resources Module is a General Q and A discussion board.
  • Students are encouraged to post questions here that peers or the instructor can answer. The instructor will check this Q and A discussion often and respond for all to see.

Announcements

  • I will post an announcement each week that will remind you of any assignments due for the week. These announcements may also include anticipated changes in my availability due to conferences or other professional responsibilities.
  • You can expect the weekly announcements on Mondays.

 Netiquette
